Tal’Ratha is one of the Remnant 2‘s N’Erud World Bosses, a giant, gas-bloated hermit crab without a shell. You’ll encounter him at the end of the Shining Essence Echo storyline. The fight changes based on what choice you make right before it starts—one boss version is more deadly than the other, and they both drop different loot.
If you’re playing solo, Tal’Ratha isn’t very tough, but he has a few moves up his sleeves that can catch you off guard if you don’t have top-level gear. The boss is slow, but deals heavy damage enough to smash you down. You must manage the adds Tal’Ratha spits out while staying clear of the smog. There’s no need to overcomplicate it: watch his mouth, dodge the slams, and don’t get greedy with your damage phases. Here’s how to defeat the Tal’Ratha boss in Remnant 2.
Remnant 2 Tal’Ratha Boss Location

You will normally fight Tal’Ratha in the Forgotten Prison area of N’Erud. He is the voice on the intercom when you first arrive, or you might meet The Custodian, who tells you to find Tal’Ratha’s physical version at the Astropaths Temple. You can’t just walk right away into his chamber, though.
To get the entry, you have to scour the wasteland for the Soul Spark Cylinder, usually hidden in a bunker-like structure with a large ramp leading underground—look for the semi-buried buildings in the open area. Once you’ve collected Cylinder (and survived the ambush of zombies that spawns right after), return to the prison entrance. The door will open, and you’ll enter a massive chamber where the Tal’Ratha waits. Use your Soul Sparks to free him from his prison and trigger a pre-battle conversation.
Tal’Ratha Boss Choice

In your conversation with Tal’Ratha, he’ll give you an offer: let him eat you for eternal salvation, or refuse. Your answer decides which boss form you’ll face:
- Refuse to be eaten: You fight Tal’Ratha Physical, the normal combat against the normal enemy.
- Agree to be eaten: You get swallowed and transported to a mindscape to fight Tal’Ratha Metaphysical. This is a stranger, more magic-heavy battle.
The difficulty varies between the two, so your decision should depend on your character build and the weapon you want to craft.

How to Beat Tal’Ratha

- Weak Spot: The gaping mouth. Aim for the mouth whenever it’s open to crit.
- Effective Against: Burning and Shock elements, Poisoned Ambit Ember Capsule
Tal’Ratha looks slow and bulky, but don’t let that fool you, as he closes the gap very fast. His arena provides an unlimited Ambit Ember buff just for being inside, so you have that going for you. When the boss does his inhale/suck attack, you can equip Poisoned Ambit Ember Capsule and throw it into his mouth. If done right, it will stun him for about 5 seconds, and he won’t be able to use his psionic orb attack for a while. Repeatable stuns can also happen if you deal 15% of his health to his gut.
Attacks and Counters
- Charge: He drops to all fours and rushes you; the hitbox can be janky here. If you are anywhere near his front legs, you’ll get trampled. Dodge sideways at the last second, not backward.
- Vacuum Suck: This is his most dangerous move. He opens his maw and drags you in from across the room. If you get eaten, you’ll take massive damage and get spit out. Do not roll spam, as it actually kills your momentum here. Instead, turn around and sprint away from him until the suction stops. If you get too close, he will grab and bite. Shooting the mouth here can stagger him, the right time to throw Capsules in his mouth. Any Hollowed Drzyr enemies get sucked too, healing him for 3% health per enemy.
- Body Slam: He throws his weight to the side. It’s a standard telegraphed move that you should dodge away from its AoE.
- Canister Toss: He throws gas canisters at you that hurt on impact, and they can spawn a Drzyr Zombie. Clear the spawned undead quickly to avoid being beaten by them when you’re focused on the boss. He usually caps this at 4 Hollowed on the field before stopping summons. Initially throws single canisters, but chains two consecutive throws once he drops to 80% health.
- Ground Punch: Tal’Ratha jumps and slams the ground, that creates a shockwave. Dodge through the wave, not away from it, to avoid the damage.
- Ichor Vomit: Regurgitates black fluid that covers large ground patches with Suppression puddles. Sometimes spawns a Hollowed Drzyr at the attack’s end. The move has two variations: consecutive blobs from midrange, or a spray of projectiles from his mouth.
- Melee Combo: Tal’Ratha performs three wide swings when you get close: left, right, then overhead slam.
How to Beat Tal’Ratha (Metaphysical)

- Weak Spot: The head/face area.
Tal’Ratha earns teleportation, which makes his movements unpredictable. His charge attack now involves a three-hit combo where he teleports between every attempt, attacking from different angles. The big arena lets him use his massive star-based AOE attacks that don’t exist in the physical fight.
Attacks and Counters
- Teleport Charge: Unlike the physical form, his charge is broken up by teleportation. He will charge, vanish, reappear from a different angle, and charge again. He usually does this three times in a row. Keep your camera on a swivel and dodge only when he materializes and lunges.
- Star Shower: This is the big AOE. He fires projectiles all over the arena that hover in the air for a second before raining down. Delay your dodge. If you panic roll when they first appear, you won’t have stamina by the time they fall. Wait for the audio cue or the visual move of the dropping stars.
- Shockwaves: Because the arena is large, he uses ground slams that ripple across the floor. Since this form floats/teleports, be careful with ground-based weapon mods (like Faultline).
- Projectile Throw: Tal’Ratha hurls energy projectiles, often after shockwave attacks or charges. Chains two projectiles together after dropping to 90% health.
