With the premiere of the new Disney+ live-action series, The Acolyte, just around the corner, casting updates are still rolling in, and with that, the hype keeps growing. According to Jeff Sneider from The Hot Mic podcast, David Harewood, famed for his role as Martian Manhunter in the CW’s Supergirl, has been cast in what’s described as a small, yet intriguing role in The Acolyte.
Here’s the scoop straight from Sneider: “It’s a little thing. But I can tell you that David Harewood, who played Martian Manhunter on Supergirl and all those DC, Arrowverse shows, he was J’on J’onzz, he’s going to be in The Acolyte. David Harewood has joined the cast of The Acolyte and it’s a small role. But he will be in the show which I believe debuts in June.”
David Harewood is no stranger to genre fans, he has worked on different DC CW projects including The Flash, Arrow, and Legends of Tomorrow. Beyond that, Harewood has shown his great acting chops in the critically acclaimed series Homeland and lent his voice to major video games including Battlefield 3, Horizon: Zero Dawn, and CoD: Infinite Warfare.
The Acolyte is set in the High Republic era and promises a deep dive into the darker corners of the Star Wars universe. The series follows a respected Jedi Master, played by Lee Jung-Jae, as he investigates a series of crimes that lead him back to a formidable enemy from his past, portrayed by Amandla Stenberg. As the story continues, the lines between good and evil blur, which leads to a thrilling action.
The ensemble cast is equally stellar, featuring Amandla Stenberg, Lee Jung-Jae, Dafne Keen, Manny Jacinto, Jodie Turner-Smith, Charlie Bennett, Rebecca Henderson, Dean Charles Chapman, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Margarita Levieva. The Acolyte will premiere with the first two episodes on Disney+ on 4th June.
