There is the latest big news in the graphics card industry—Intel might leapfrog over AMD and Nvidia with their upcoming Battlemage GPUs, set for a potential 2024 release. If the rumors are true, Intel could be the first out of the gate with next-gen graphics before we ring in the New Year, while AMD and Nvidia are thinking of early 2025 releases.
Intel’s first foray into Arc GPUs had a bit of a rocky start. There were initial stumbles with game stability and compatibility, but it seems like they’ve turned the ship around after a slew of driver updates. These GPUs are now reliable performers, though they haven’t quite reached the peak performance of their AMD and Nvidia rivals. But their upcoming Battlemage cards are rumored to bring a serious performance boost that could turn things in their favor.
These latest details come from a post by a user on Wiebo.com (a popular Chinese site), who claims to have been at an “internal exchange” meeting between Intel and Asus. The big reveal? Intel plans to drop these new graphics cards by this year’s end, promising big performance improvements. Of course, the details are sparse, and we don’t know about the exact month but it should be in the last quarter.
Battlemage leak images might follow through some specs leaks, including benchmarks that popped up in the SiSoftware database. The two upcoming Battlemage cards included information such as Xe core counts, 1.8GHz clock speeds, and 12GB of VRAM. Of course, AMD and Nvidia are not sitting still either. AMD’s Radeon RX 7000 cards may arrive later this year or early next. Unfortunately, the competition between AMD and Nvidia in these charts will still be lacking (at least at the high end) because Team Green easily leads by a significant margin.
So, there you have it! Could Intel’s Battlemage take a long lead into the 2024 GPU market? It’s an exciting time to be someone who enjoys PC gaming, as we wait and see how these chips will hold up in the real world and satisfy gamers worldwide.
