Helldivers 2 lets you and your friends fight against different alien factions to defend Super Earth, a futuristic version of our planet. One of the toughest missions you will encounter is to rescue the science teams, a group of civilians who are trapped in a hostile environment. This Defend Mission can be quite challenging, as you have to escort the civilians to safety while fending off waves of enemies. This guide will give you some tips and tricks on how to complete the Helldivers 2 Rescue Science Teams objective.
Find the Settlements
The first step to rescue the science team is to find the settlements where they are located. Look for buildings sporting green lights above the doors – that’s the sign we can open the doors to rescue the scientists. You’ve got a couple of options to find them: either see on your map or keep an eye on the handy objective markers that appear on your screen. And just a heads up, there might be a few settlements scattered around, so we’ll need to scout around each one until we stumble upon our civilians.
Open the Doors and Escort the Civilians
Once you spot one of those settlements with the green-light door, you need to interact with the panel right next to it to open it up. Doing so will let three civilians out, your mission is to escort these scientists to the Evacuation Shuttle, all while keeping them safe from the bad guys. These civilians aren’t exactly the toughest out there – a hit or two can take them down, so be super careful not to accidentally shoot them or let the enemies kill them. Keep your eyes peeled for hazards like mines, lava, or acid pools.
The number of researchers you need to rescue depends on how tough you’ve set the difficulty level and what mission you’re on. You can track your progress in the top right corner of your screen. If a settlement’s out of civilians or needs a bit to reset, you’ll see the light above the door switch to yellow, and that button won’t do anything. When that happens, it’s time to find another settlement or hang tight until the light flips back to green.
Keep on collecting and escorting these scientists to safety. Watch out for the Automatons that come after you in the process. Once you’ve got all your scientists safely on the Evacuation Shuttle, you’ll get the go-ahead to extract them. Then, it’s all about guarding the extraction zone against an onslaught for a few required minutes. Clear the area, and hustle back to your ship—just make sure you beat the clock to complete the Rescue Science Teams in Helldivers 2.
Use the Right Weapons and Stratagems
To make this mission easier, you have to use the right weapons and stratagems. You can mix and match your arsenal before diving in, or switch things up at supply points if you’re in the thick of it.
For weapons, you’ve got some solid choices. The AR-23P Liberator Penetrator is an assault rifle that doesn’t mess around – it can blast through a bunch of enemies in one go. Then there’s the SG-225 Breaker, a powerful gun that’s all about up-close-and-personal, big-bang-for-your-buck kind of deal. These firearms are great for mowing down Automatons and keeping those civilians safe as you pave the way.
Now, onto the stratagems – Sentry Turrets are like having an extra set of hands that shoot for you, perfect for holding down the fort. The Orbital Gatling Barrage is your “big boom” solution for clearing out swathes of foes in a flash. And if you like the sound of that, the Orbital 120MM HE Barrage ups the ante with explosive shells raining destruction from above, great for crowd control.
Don’t sleep on the Grenade Launcher either. This weapon launches grenades that can do the whole ricochet routine off walls and go “boom” right when you need it. It’s great for flushing out those annoying enemies taking cover or cramming into tight spots. So, gear up smartly, and you’ll be turning this task into a walk in the park.
Work as a Team
The golden rule for acing this Defense Mission? Teamwork makes the dream work. Honestly, trying to tackle this mission solo is like trying to climb a mountain in flip-flops – not the best idea. Helldivers 2 shines when you’re playing with friends or teaming up with other players online. You’ve got voice chat to strategize in real-time or you can rely on the handy in-game commands if you’re not into chatting.
You can also revive them if they get downed, or share ammo and equipment with them. Teaming up makes everything smoother. You can divvy up roles – someone cracks open the doors, another escorts the civilians, and someone else keeps the enemies at bay. Further, when you combine your stratagems, you’ll pack a way bigger punch. So, with a solid team, you’re pretty much unstoppable.
