You know how we all love the insane level of control Android gives us over our phones, right? Whether you’re the type to root your phone and tinker with every setting or just love organizing your apps, Samsung’s got a little something extra for you. They added a nifty feature in their latest One UI 6 beta update that takes user control to the next level. You can now pick which system apps to update when you’re installing a new version of Android.
Previously, you got the whole enchilada whenever Samsung pushed out a software update. Every pre-installed system app got updated, whether or not you liked it. But now, they’re allowing us to update just the apps we care about.
Next time you install One UI beta 3, watch for a section on the Software update screen. You’ll spot a box that says, “Some apps can be updated along with this software update.” Tap on the option to “Choose apps to update.” You’ll be taken to a new settings screen showing you a list of all the Samsung system apps. Select the ones you want to update, and you’re good to go. You’ll have to update the other apps manually if you want them fresh and up-to-date.
Quick heads-up: you can still update most of these apps through the Galaxy Store or Google Play. You can set those to auto-update if you like. But if you opt out during the system update, you could speed up the process and get to that shiny new Android version even faster.
Samsung’s been making waves lately with a bunch of cool stuff. This One UI 6 update is fast-tracking through its beta phases and has awesome features. While this new feature isn’t exactly earth-shattering, it’s a cool addition. It’s like the cherry on top of One UI’s legacy of offering customization options that make other brands green with envy.
