The rumor mill around Nvidia’s next-gen GPUs is heating up again, and this time, it’s the GeForce RTX 4080. According to new leaks, Nvidia might be preparing not one but two versions of the RTX 4080, one with 12GB VRAM and the second with 16GB. The leak comes from reliable tipster MEGAsizeGPU, who recently shared more details on the RTX 4090’s design and PCB specs. Still, take everything with a pinch of salt until we hear it from Jensen Huang himself.
If these reports are accurate, both the RTX 4080 and RTX 4090 will be part of Nvidia’s Ada Lovelace architecture, and we will likely see an official reveal as early as this month. That would reflect the big rollout we saw with the Ampere generation, where Nvidia launched a few cards in quick succession.
According to MEGAsizeGPU, the flagship RTX 4090 will feature a 14-layer PCB design and 24GB of GDDR6X memory, an increase from the 12-layer board used in the RTX 3090 Ti Founders Edition. The high layer count will help deliver more stable power and better performance during high-intensive tasks, something power users will appreciate.

As for the RTX 4080, a leak claims we might see two different graphics cards with different configs, including a 12 GB model with a 10-layer PCB and a 16 GB version built onto a 12-layer PCB. Both cards are predicted to run on the same GDDR6X memory as the 4090. MegasizeGPU later clarified that the 12 GB version might come with a 192-bit memory interface, and that sounds like it’ll be more similar in design to an RTX 4070 instead of being a full-fat 4080.
If that’s the case, then Nvidia’s naming scheme will possibly make a mess of things again, blurring the line between their mid-range and high-end GPUs. For now, though, all eyes are on Team Green’s next announcement and whether these two GeForce RTX 4080 models will really make their debut side by side as claimed.
