Leaks and rumors surrounding the Samsung Galaxy S23 lineup continue to surface, with the latest suggesting good improvements to the phones’ photo and video recording.

    — Ice universe (@UniverseIce) December 9, 2022

According to well-known leaker Ice Universe, the upcoming Galaxy S23 models will be able to record 8K video at 30 fps, an upgrade from the 24 fps limit on all Galaxy S22 handsets. While the increase in resolution may seem minor, the higher frame rate means smooth, more cinematic footage — a welcome upgrade.

In addition, Ice Universe says that the Galaxy S23 Ultra will capture daylight images that are “crystal clear,” which offers “full depth” and “increased color saturation.” Though details remain limited, these claims align with earlier reports claiming that the Ultra version will produce highly sharp and more vivid photos than the standard and Plus models.

Compared with S22 Ultra, the characteristics of S23 Ultradaily daytime photos are clearer, with better details and higher saturation.

Based on prior leaks, Ice Universe seems to have early access to a Galaxy S23 prototype or at least its camera samples. The new flagship series is expected to debut in February 2023.

    Camera Improvements: Evolution, Not Revolution

Smartphone cameras have advanced to the point where it’s becoming very difficult for manufacturers to deliver good year-over-year improvements. For the Galaxy S23 lineup, Samsung seems focused on refining image and video quality instead of making hardware changes.

    The current Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus feature triple-lens setups (50MP + 12MP + 10MP) with 3x optical zoom, while the Galaxy S22 Ultra stands out with its quad-lens system (108MP + 12MP + 10MP + 10MP) and 10x optical zoom.

For 2023, speculation points to the Galaxy S23 Ultra adopting a 200MP main sensor, which will be a massive gain in low-light performance and telephoto detail. Though not every rear camera is expected to receive a hardware refresh.

Meanwhile, there’s been less buzz around the Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus cameras. Most leaks suggest minimal hardware changes, though software optimizations could still lead to better overall results.
