AMD RX 9070 GPUs Spotted at Retailers, Team Red May Have Nvidia’s RTX 5070 in Its Sights

With a launch rumored for January 23 or 24, AMD may have Nvidia's RTX 5070 in its sights.

AMD’s RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT graphics cards have been spotted at retailers, hinting that their official launch is just around the corner. If the latest leaks are legit, AMD should be ready to give Nvidia’s RTX 5070 a serious headache.

A Danish retailer briefly listed the RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT as “in stock” on its website before quickly removing the listings. An X (formerly Twitter) user @momomo_us spotted this and started a buzz on social media. Over in Israel, a shop employee shared photos of the RX 9070 and its XT sibling. While the pictures were quickly deleted, tech site VideoCardz saved and shared them.

Moreover, a German price comparison site, Geizhals, listed the RX 9070 XT with a release date of January 24. That lines up nicely with a leak from B&H Photo, which accidentally gave the RX 9070 a pre-order date of January 23. Even XFX, a graphics card maker, has teased something big about Nav 48 for this timeframe. The stars look aligning for a late January launch.

If you’re wondering why AMD is holding back on pulling the curtain, timing likely be the strategy. Even though these GPUs were briefly introduced at CES 2025, the company chose to keep most of the details under wraps. Instead, AMD aims to plan a dedicated event for its new RDNA 4 graphics cards, possibly after Nvidia’s RTX 5080 and 5090 announcements on January 30. AMD wants to stay in the conversation by spacing out its launch. They’re likely watching Nvidia’s pricing strategy to ensure their cards come out swinging with competitive prices.

AMD has a history of shaking the GPU market with strong performance at reasonable prices. If they stick to that playbook, the RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT will deliver a big win for gamers looking for powerful hardware without the sticker shock.

So far, AMD hasn’t confirmed an exact launch date. The only official word is that these GPUs will ship in the first quarter of 2025. Whether it’s a full announcement, pre-orders, or the cards hitting shelves, we’re close. Frank Azor, AMD’s head of consumer and gaming marketing, has already said there’s no delay in the RDNA 4 timeline, and this retailer leaks back this up.

According to VideoCardz, another AMD’s senior marketing manager Donny Woligroski, confirmed this statement as well, but he kept his lips tight about the release date. However, if all of the given signals aren’t wildly wrong, it should be approaching soon in the latter part of this month. AMD’s RX 9070 series is expected to deliver strong performance with RDNA 4 architecture, targeting gamers who want high-quality graphics without breaking the bank. If AMD prices these cards aggressively, they could give Nvidia’s RTX 5070 a serious run for its money.
