The God of War TV series will take longer than expected to reach your home screens. Originally announced nearly two years ago, it would have featured Rafe Judkins (The Wheel of Time) as its showrunner and Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby as its producers. However, all three have recently left the project despite having prepared multiple scripts for the show’s debut season. Amazon and Sony have decided to move in a different direction, though the scripts were reportedly praised regardless.
Now, Deadline has revealed the new head honcho: Ronald D. Moore. Veteran Star Trek fans will know him as the producer of Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, although more recently, he rose to fame for the Battlestar Galactica reboot series as well as Outlander and For All Mankind. According to the report, Moore will be at the same time writer, executive producer, and showrunner for the God of War TV series. Sony Santa Monica’s God of War creative director Cory Barlog is still an executive producer alongside Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan from PlayStation Productions, Hermen Hulst from Sony Interactive Entertainment, and Roy Lee from Vertigo Entertainment. Last but not least, Sony Santa Monica’s Jeff Ketcham is still listed as co-executive producer.
We don’t really know a lot about the God of War TV series beyond the fact that it will adapt the Norse saga, starting with the 2018 game. Fans are already going wild with the actors they’d like to see…
