NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090D GPU Headed To Chinese Gamers, Box Materials Leak Out

NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 5090D GPU for the Chinese market is seemingly confirmed, as a new leak has disclosed SKU’s branding.

It looks like Team Green won’t be leaving behind enthusiastic GPU options from Chinese gamers despite the still effective export laws, as the firm has plans to release a successor to the GeForce RTX 4090D.

For those unaware, the “D” variants are stripped-down versions of their original counterpart, developed to comply with US restrictions. These models usually come with lower core counts with noticeable performance differences, and it looks like a similar case will occur with the GeForce RTX 5090D.

Based on a new leak by MEGAsizeGPU, the “apparent” logotype for the next-gen NVIDIA “China-compliant” flagship GPU has surfaced online. This information comes after it was revealed that Team Green halted the production of the previous-gen GeForce RTX 4090D.

Interestingly, the GeForce RTX 4090D, despite being a relatively lower counterpart to the original GeForce RTX 4090, shows decent sales traction in China, running out of retailers in some instances as well, which is why Team Green has decided to release a successor.

As for the information available right now, we are unaware of the specifications of NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 5090D, but NVIDIA will likely have to keep the TPP (Total Processing Power) below 4800, so it will have to leverage architectural upgrades to bring in the performance difference.

Now that the “D” variants are seemingly confirmed and are under plans by NVIDIA, the bigger question is whether Team Green will need to re-shape its strategy when US restrictions become harsher. The firm’s business in China is currently standing on a needle, and given that the US has decided to revise its policies in the future, NVIDIA would need to re-work all its efforts, which would be a difficult task for the company, especially for the supply chain involved.

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090D launched last year as a relaunching of enthusiast options at the start of the year of the Dragon. The Chinese New Year takes place on the 29th of January, so the card might likely be introduced before that date and the same is expected to be the case for the standard RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 models.

Regarding the release date, we can expect the GeForce RTX 5090D to be released alongside its “non-D” counterparts in the first quarter of next year, likely near CES 2025.
