A major differentiation between the regular iPhone models and the ‘Pro’ versions was the LTPS and LTPO technology that Apple introduced every year. With the more expensive handsets, the company bringing LTPO meant better power efficiency and color reproduction, not to mention supporting ProMotion, which materialized that buttery-smooth 120Hz refresh rate.
Unfortunately, that differentiator will no longer be present next year, as all iPhone 17 models are said to feature LTPO OLED panels. However, one rumor claims that the following year, Apple will bring in a new display technology called ‘LTPO+,’ and this addition could give customers another reason to spend a premium on either the iPhone 18 Pro or the iPhone 18 Pro Max.
LTPO+ is said to bring enhancements to the advantages already present in LTPO, but it might no longer be viable for customers to upgrade to the iPhone 18 Pro or iPhone 18 Pro Max
The rumor was posted by Jukanlosreve, who states that Omdia, the independent analyst and consultancy firm, made the prediction that Apple would introduce LTPO+ technology two years from now. While the specifics were not mentioned in the latest post on X, the tipster states that LTPO+ has yet to be developed, but when it does enter production, it will tout enhanced attributes compared to standard LTPO, including improved efficiency.
Given that Samsung and LG are Apple’s current iPhone display suppliers that have provided the Cupertino firm with LTPO panels annually, it is likely that these two Korean manufacturers will be tasked with bringing the technology to the market. Keep in mind that Samsung initially refused to mass produce tandem OLED found in Apple’s M4 iPad Pro models due to profitability concerns and would only consider if a large enough order was placed.
Exclusive: Apple is reportedly planning to use upgraded LTPO+ panels for the iPhone 18 Pro series, replacing the current LTPO panels.

While the manufacturing behemoth later agreed, this setback created a launch delay, which could be the case with LTPO+ if Apple cannot convince Samsung and LG to conduct R&D and lay out separate production lines for these newer OLED displays, which will take billions to complete. Assuming some roadblock or another comes in between the launch timeline, it is possible that the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max will be stuck with the regular LTPO technology. In any case, we recommend treating this rumor with a pinch of salt until we have more information on the matter.
