Several ASUS and Gigabyte AMD B850 and B840 motherboards surfaced online today. As many as eight motherboard models have been leaked, revealing their form factors, design, and onboard features.
Gigabyte Prepares the AORUS, Eagle, & Gaming Lineups, While ASUS is also Ready with the ROG Strix, TUF, and Prime Series B850 & B840 motherboards
AMD’s AM5 lineup includes 800-chipset motherboards, from which the X870/X870E lineup was already launched with the release of Ryzen 9000 CPUs. The rest of the 800 chipset boards are expected to arrive any time as soon as we enter 2025.
However, you may not need to wait a few more weeks just to see what these chipset boards will bring to the table, even though you can’t get your hands on them officially. Today, we have received information about several B850 and B840 chipset motherboards, which belong to ASUS and Gigabyte. There are about eight models in total, which will increase in the coming days.
The leaker @momomo_us has posted pics of these boards along with their boxes on X, revealing their model names, form factors, and the design they bring to the table. Starting with the ASUS motherboards, there are three models: 2x B850 and 1x B840.
- ASUS ROG Strix B850-A Gaming WiFi
- ASUS TUF Gaming B850-Plus WiFi
- ASUS PRIME B840M-A-CSM
The ROG Strix B850-A and TUF Gaming B850 are mid-range and budget offerings, featuring the same chipset that boasts Gen 5 as well as Gen 4 speeds for PCI-E slots. Compared to the X870/X870E, it will bring USB 3.2 20 Gbps ports instead of USB 4, which is mandatory on the X870/X870E. The Strix motherboard here features 2x PCI-E x16 slots, 4x DIMMs, 4x M.2 ports, and a fully white PCB with RGB integration in the I/O shroud.
The TUF Gaming model is an all-black motherboard with 2x PCI-E x16 slots, 2x PCI-E x1 slots, 2x M.2 ports, 4x DIMMs, and smaller heatsinks than the ROG model. However, both are equipped with similar connectivity options, including wireless connectivity. On the other hand, the Prime B840M-A-CSM is an entry-level motherboard, featuring only Gen 3.0 speeds on the M.2 and PCI-E x16 slots. It is a micro-ATX board with 4x DIMMs, 2x M.2 slots, 3x PCI-E x16 slots, and 4x SATA ports.
From Gigabyte, we have five models, all B850 chipset motherboards from different families, like AORUS, Eagle, and Gaming.
- Gigabyte B850 AORUS Elite WiFi 7 (Black)
- Gigabyte B850 AORUS Elite WiFi 7 (White)
- Gigabyte B850I AORUS PRO
- Gigabyte B850 EAGLE WiFi6E
- Gigabyte B850 GAMING WiFi6
As it appears from the designs, the AORUS series boards belong to the mid-range category and the AORUS Elite WiFi 7 is available in two different themes. They seem to be on par with the ASUS ROG Strix B850 motherboards in specifications and features, but we will know more about that in detail later once the information is officially out.
The Eagle and Gaming B850 boards are the budget-category boards with older WiFi 6 and WiFi 6E standards for internet connectivity. They are also inferior in design and component support as appears from the photos. Expect all these ASUS and Gigabyte B850 and B840 motherboards to be released at CES 2025, when AMD will launch more hardware to compete against Intel and NVIDIA.
