The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus May Arrive Earlier Than Expected

A recent leak implies that Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus chip may be making its way into 2022’s Android high-end smartphones quicker than previously thought, which is good news for consumers.

Smartphones utilizing the improved Qualcomm processor might be on the market in the future as this year, according to an analyst on Chinese popular website Weibo.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus should be available as soon as feasible, according to TSMC, a well-known Taiwanese chipmaker. Assuming these latest details are correct, it could be launched and available to use in devices sooner than scheduled in the latter part of the year.

Benefits from Upgrading

The first generation of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 was manufactured by Samsung, which has already appeared in devices like the Galaxy S22 family (at least in the US). The OnePlus 10 will likewise be powered by the same chip.

The Plus variant of this chipset is expected to provide a significant performance boost, though. There have been no rumors about its specifications, but we may assume it will use the same 4 nm technology as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 that was released earlier this year.

Compared to the Snapdragon 888 that came before, the Snapdragon 888 Plus boosted raw speeds by 5% and AI processing by 20%, so we could be in for a similar performance boost this time around.

An Evaluation of the Necessity for Speed

With a 20% boost in performance over the previous generation Snapdragon 888 and a 30% reduction in power consumption, Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 CPU appears to be an excellent choice for smartphones.

Despite this, the smartphone business is constantly evolving. This weekend, there were reports that the A15 Bionic CPU in the newest iPhone 13 devices surpassed the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip in the Galaxy S22 series by a wide margin.

Even if the Google Pixel 6 uses a Google-designed Tensor processor, instead of one built by Qualcomm, the expectation is there for Qualcomm to stay competitive and perform.

Just how big of an upgrade the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus will provide when it finally reaches users is something we’ll have to experience for ourselves when the chip is officially released.
