OpenAI is well-known in the tech community for redefining the potential of AI and introducing revolutionary models. The company keeps evolving its technology by bringing in major updates and keeps striving to stand out. With the company transitioning to a for-profit organization, many new products and features are underway. Now, the company has a new way of celebrating the holiday season by hosting a special event, Shipmas, that spans over 12 days and brings forward new products and features. It is said that among the big announcements would be the long-awaited Sora.

OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman officially confirmed the 12 days packed with announcements at a New York Times’ DealBook conference, and although there were no products specifically mentioned in the announcement, it was mentioned that there would be new minor and major news coming out consecutively over the span of almost two weeks.
Prior to the official announcement, there were hints being dropped by some of the employees of the company on social media about the Christmas wish list of users, and members responded back with Shimpas trees hinting at the upcoming special occasion. Even the lead for Sora, Bill Peebles, is said to have agreed with a post about OpenAI making its comeback.

While OpenAI’s Sora was said to be launched by the end of the year, the public launch was delayed due to controversy with artists involving the model being leaked in protests and also testing with a selected group of artists that extended the period longer. Now, the release seems imminent, with the possibility of OpenAI bringing out its generative AI video model as part of the special announcements.
On the other hand, Google has launched its Veo, generative AI model ahead of Sora in a private preview, even though OpenAI was the first to demo this capability back in February. The tech community had long been waiting for Sora to be launched, and now it seems the release is not far off. As part of the Shipmas announcement, it is expected that Google might incorporate a Santa voice into ChatGPT due to a recent update that replaces the voice mode button with a snowflake.
