Nowadays, many streaming services are in the market, making it hard to decide which one to choose, and ranking the best streaming services is not easy.
Streaming services are becoming more common in American households and in other countries as well. More than ever, TV viewers are opting to cord-cutting traditional cable and instead use streaming services to access more content.
The demand led to streaming services’ rapid growth. This can be overwhelming in choosing your streaming platform for your family. Streaming services range from traditional powerhouses like Netflix and Amazon Prime to all-encompassing packages like Sling TV and Hulu.
We reviewed the top streaming services by price, streaming library, and reputation. Also, these are being judged as separate entities because it is impossible to account for everyone’s preferences and subscriptions.
Here are the Top 5 Best Streaming Services for 2022
5. DISNEY+
Disney+ returns to more traditional streaming options in our top 5 streaming services rankings. Disney+ has an impressive library (intellectual property). Libraries of Star Wars, Pixar, Disney films, and National Geographic content. It’s a flexible platform for almost everyone.
Disney+ may be overpriced at $6.99/month (a dollar more than Hulu, despite having far less content), but the strength of its Intellectual Property makes it essential for families with children and Marvel and Star Wars fans.
4. HULU
Like Netflix, Hulu’s main draw is its extensive television library. Nothing beats Hulu’s massive TV library, which spans almost every genre. They also offer premium channels like HBO and Showtime for a monthly fee.
Hulu is also very cheap at $5.99 per month. A weekend binge can quickly deplete that value. Without the cachet of HBO, the sheer volume of content can keep viewers occupied for months (which is helpful right about now).
For $12.99 per month, you can get Hulu plus Disney+ and ESPN+.
3. AMAZON PRIME
It’s tricky because Prime Video isn’t the main focus of an Amazon Prime subscription. Prime costs $12.99 per month and focuses on faster and cheaper delivery. Prime Video is a bonus, but they have a large movie and TV show library (including the incredible World Cup documentary series). It has the best balance between the two after Netflix (HBO and Hulu are more focused on TV), but their library is nowhere near as strong as the other top streaming sites.
Ultimately, if you want Prime Video, you should get Amazon Prime. Maybe not when Netflix is significantly better and a dollar cheaper.
2. HBO GO
It’s hard to argue with HBO Go’s streaming library. HBO produced some of the best TV series ever made, including The Wire, Game of Thrones, The Sopranos, and modern classics like Barry, Succession, and Veep. In addition, late-night, sports, and documentary programming are available.
Other services may have more options, but HBO’s position atop the original content mountain is undisputed, so they rank second. You can get HBO Go for $14.99/month.
1. NETFLIX
It’s difficult to argue with Netflix being the number 1 top streaming service. Netflix has heavily established a streaming platform. Their library is the most balanced and comprehensive, with a great mix of movies, TV shows, and original content.
Whether you have basic cable or a comprehensive streaming service, Netflix remains the leader in streaming. They were the first to go online successfully, and no one has yet matched their success. The king survives despite all attempts to dethrone him.
Netflix offers a basic plan for $12.99/month (HD and two screens) and a deluxe plan for $14.99/month (HD, 4K, and four screens).
You may also need the best VPN for Netflix so you can enjoy TV and movies that are not available in your country.
Honorable Mention:
SLING TV
Sling TV is a bit confusing, with three different packages (Blue, Orange, and Blue+Orange) and different channel numbers:
- It’s $35/month for 32+ channels.
- It also has 47+ channels for $35/month.
- $50/month Sling Orange+Blue with 53+ channels
Blue vs. Orange: Aside from the lack of channels, both options are designed to entice you to subscribe to Orange + Blue. Sling also offers $5-$15 monthly add-on packages. In addition, you get 50 hours of free DVR.
