TikTok can become a treasure trove of valuable knowledge-filled videos for those who seek it, but with the ongoing wave of misinformation, it can be extremely difficult to distinguish between facts and fiction. A series of clips uploaded to the platform talk about how easy it is to steal one’s credit card details using Apple’s AirDrop feature, which is a highly useful tool when it comes to sharing data instantly when two iPhones are positioned correctly and are in close proximity with one another.
There is no concrete proof that using AirDrop can cause your credit card information to become compromised, with one TikToker talking about a feature that does not even exist
Word around TikTok is that AirDrop can provide unrestricted access to anyone when sharing data with one another. According to AppleInsider, several videos have been doing the rounds talking about how one can compromise their security and everything stored within Apple Wallet if the AirDrop feature is used. The second video claims that a recent update has caused this vulnerability, which we assume would be iOS 18.1. Despite the panic that would be stirred thanks to the views amassed by the two TikTokers, AirDrop can, in fact, not be used to steal credit card information. Sadly, there is no way to originate the source of this misinformation, but we recommend that readers conduct their own research before believing the heaps of content that gets uploaded to TikTok.
