There seems to be no such fanless PC at the moment that can run at a 65W processor with ease but things look pretty interesting with this one.
An upcoming pre-built desktop PC is rumored to feature a 65W AMD CPU but won’t use a fan on the heatsink
A fanless PC is technically dependent on passive cooling, which comprises aluminum heatsinks and copper heat pipes for heat dissipation. The idea of a fanless PC seems exciting but is hardly implemented in full-fledged desktop PCs or even laptops.
This is because powerful processors and GPUs can’t run cooler without fans throwing air all the time on the heatsink block attached to the chips. Even though we do have fanless PCs, these are mostly deployed inside a small form-factor chassis with a configuration that comprises ultra-power-efficient chips(mostly mobile CPUs). The heatsinks are usually much larger and denser than regular air coolers, and the temperatures are higher compared to solutions found in regular PCs.
However, it seems like a PC manufacturer is taking a bold step towards building the first desktop PC with a mainstream desktop processor that would instead require a complete cooling solution comprising both a heatsink and a fan. FanlessTech reports that it’s going to be the “first” fanless PC from a “Major” brand that will feature a 65W CPU in the next week.
While the exact SKU hasn’t been named, FanlessTech posted a pic of an AMD Ryzen desktop processor. If we go by the 65W TDP, it is likely among the Ryzen 8000G processors since Ryzen 9000 CPUs have already been unlocked to use up to 105W with the recent BIOS updates. Moreover, Ryzen 9000 CPUs won’t possibly run cool with a passive cooling solution as they are made specifically for high-performance computing tasks.
Looking at the pre-built PCs without any fans, we find that most mini-PCs are usually based on entry-level Intel processors, featuring up to 4 cores and very low clock speeds. Most of them aren’t from major brands, which makes the upcoming Ryzen-based fanless PC a unique desktop system that could easily take on any modern fan-less system in gaming and CPU-oriented tasks. Not much has been shared regarding the specifications, pricing, and availability of this PC, but some of the crucial information should be out in a few days. Stay tuned for more updates.
